PC Desktops: How Do You Choose?
Among so many PC desktops on the market, choosing just one is not an easy job. There are a few things that you should consider to help you make your decision.
Of course, you want to think about how you are going to use your computer. But spend the time doing this before you begin to shop. It is all too easy to either over buy or under buy if you have not really determined your needs.
For basic uses such as spreadsheets, documents and emails, you can invest in a simple system. However, if you plan to be using your computer for applications that use a lot of graphics or need excellent audio output, you need to spend a bit more money on a system that is more powerful. Do not, however, buy based on what you think your needs may be too far ahead of time. Technology changes rapidly and there may be something better by the time you are ready.
For basic tasks, a basic processor will do just fine. Any dual-core processor will make your machine run quickly and be able to multitask. You do not have to buy at the top of the line for your needs. For gaming or more demanding applications such as those used in audio-visual editing, you will need a high-performance processor and may want to consider one that is four-core.
Operating memory can be added at anytime. But it is still best to try to plan according to your needs and have what you need installed when you purchase the computer. Keep in in mind that it will need to run all the applications you plan on using.
The size of the hard drive you will need will also depend on the way you use the desktop. Again, if you are only working with simple documents and spreadsheets, these do not take a lot of space. Movies, photos and other graphic heavy or audio files take up a great deal of room on the other hand.
Another consideration is the ports available. You want to be sure you have enough USB ports for all the things you will need to connect, as well as FireWire ports. Again, the key is to flesh out how you plan on using your computer first and what you may want to connect such as printers and external hard drives. You always want to leave room for expansion such as the ability to add a graphics card if your needs change later.
Once you determine your needs, there will be a number of PC desktops that will answer them well. You should even be able to find one at a price you can afford.
