Brother HL 5050 Printer – A Great Home Office Companion
The Brother HL 5050 printer works with the Brother HL 5050 Toner and is a low cost and straight to work type of printer. There are a number of factors which are going in the correct direction for this laser printer.
The first is its low price tag and the second is the rather compact footprint. This in turn means that this printer is a great fit for tight budget and crowded workspaces of small offices. This printer produces top quality monochrome prints at break neck speeds. It also has the ability to print on both sides of the paper. It’s built in network capability means that it can easily be connected to an existing office’s or home’s network.
Out of the box I would say that this printer is a winner especially for those people who are looking for a bargain. This is a bargain size printer with lots of good printing ability. The text printed were surprisingly good and crisp.
The Brother HL 5050 arrives factory fitted with a 250 sheet in the bottom. There is yet another tray in front that can hold another 50 sheets of paper. This can be used for two purposes either feed paper or to stack envelopes for printing.
For an office that does a lot of envelope printing this is a great option. The printer does not possess a back exit so the chances of the paper coming out un-creased is low. The fact that this printer comes with a built in duplexer is very attractive. If you are badly in need of more paper capacity you can always get an extra 250 tray attached for an extra $200.
If you look closely towards the output bin you should find a control panel that has four lights and two buttons. Even though the printer does not have an LCD menu its not difficult to enter in network parameters. The booklet that comes with the printer is colorful and well illustrated.
This makes setting up the printer and troubleshooting it easy. Apart from this booklet you get a CD Rom that has an electronic booklet. This booklet is in PDF format and illustrates how easy it is to set the printer up. If you think you need more help just visit Brother’s website and download network administration tools for free.
The Brother printer is capable of printing excellent quality text at high speeds. The speed and quality text combine to make this printer one of the best in its price range. Line art and other graphics also looked great. The printer also has the ability to output excellent monochrome graphics and text. There were however a few strange things we spotted with some letters of some fonts.

I’m one of 8 adult children – and the first one to get a netbook. Now 4 out of 8 own it – and the 5th one is looking! I thought I’d only use it occasionally, but since I first turned it on, I’ve used my PC less than twice a month. It’s faster on the internet than anything I’ve ever used. I now use it for all my digital photo editing – I download over 500 images per month and spend hours working on them. One hint: I keep my music library on a thumb drive so I can plug and play it using Windows media Player on the Acer. I keep another thumb drive handy in case I need to print something. For any application I have found using a thumb drive is better than having duplicate files on two computers. Do not be afraid to buy this item. I will never be without my little red Acer!
